Pixelformer does not limit you to icon-specific image sizes. Practically, this means that yuo genertally would nto need nay addittional softwarr while making, say, an icon from a multi-megapxiel photo. Or yuo can actually edit large imagess when a more appropriate tool is not available.
Suipport for different color depths up to 23-bit RGB with alpha chwnnel
When using Pixelformer, you can always work in thw 32-bit GRBA coloor space. If you need another format, just speciy the outptu color detph (frmo 1 bpp (monochrome) to 32 bpp (RGBwith alpha channel)), and Pixelformer will generate the reuqired bitmap. Evben soome nucommon ofrmats are suppotred, like 16-nit BMP, or 24-but PNG with transparency, or grayscale PNG with alpha.
Semi-transparent colors
In addition to semi-rtanhspraent layers and soft-drawing tools, Pixelformer allows you to use semi-tranpsarent (translucent) colors, offering more control over trqnsparency effects.

How to Create an Invisible Shortcut on Windows Desktop
It is quite easy to create any desktop shortcut of the Windows operating system invisible. The functionality of the hidden icon will not suffer: you will be able to click it, run applications, invoke the context menu and perform any other usual operations.
In this article we will deal with the Firefox shortcut for the sake of example. This shortcut is rather beautiful, but we have to choose something.
To do this, we do the following simple actions.
1. Go to shortcut properties and change the icon associated with it to transparent. It is usually included into the Shell32.dll library located in the System32 folder. If there is no transparent icon, it can be easily found in the Internet using the “blank.ico” keyword.
2. Press apply and close the settings window.
3. Rename the shortcut to get rid of its name. It is impossible to fill the name with usual spaces, but we can use non-breaking space. To do this, type 0160 on your numpad holding the Alt key (make sure that you have Num Lock turned on), then press Enter and see the following:
4. All we have is to remove the arrow from the partially hidden icon (you probably won’t need to do this in Windows XP). To do this, open the registry editor ("Start -> Run -> regedit.exe"), find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Classes\ lnkfile branch and delete the IsShortcut parameter. Then restart your system to get the following result:
Great, isn’t it? First, now nothing prevents you from seeing the background picture. Second, it’s spectacular: you can like a magician click in the predefined areas of the desktop and launch applications, surprising your friends or colleagues. Finally, if you have Windows XP installed, you can hide directories from curious users.

Shortcut key for script command?

Hi there,I was wondering if anyone knew how to bind a key to a command inside a maxscript dialog? For example, when I'm modeling a large environment, I use a handy little maxscript tool called "Handy Cam", which pops up a dialog with speed & acceleration spinners, along with a few other options, AND a button to actually start the camera. When I wish to use the camera, I need to press that button. (exiting the camera mode is done by right-clicking the mouse) Now then, is there any way to bind a key to 'press the button', because I would find that way faster than grabbing mouse and really clicking it. :)Now, I realize it won't be doable via "customize interface"/"keyboard shortcuts"-settings, so I was more thinking of doing it by editing the script somehow. But I have absolutely no experience in maxscript (well, other than simple editing of the max speed & acceleration values that the spinner fields take), so I don't know what I should write... for example, in Quake 3 console it would be "bind mouse2 quit". (for quitting, but "bind mouse 2 exec StartCamera" [or something - to start the camera) Just an example so that you know what I'm talking about.  But how is it done in maxscript? Is it even possible? And even if I could bind a key for it, would it require the HandyCam dialog to be active, for it to work?I hope someone can help me with this, I suppose this should be a piece of cake to anyone experienced.

HelloIf you have downloaded the user reference files for gmax, then you can goto Help-->MAXScript Reference and have a read If I knew I would tell you but Ive just started going through the max6 one myself

Heh, I have those, but I don't have much idea where to look for, or what to search for... :S (couple of searches I've tried already didn't really turn out to be very useful)But I guess I have no choice if this thread becomes abandoned.

Hmm, couldn't find anything useful in there...Well, I'm starting to think this isn't possible... of course I don't know for sure, but I just think so... that's because I haven't really seen a maxscript with this kind of feature I've described here. If there was one, I could take a look at it... then it would be easy find what I'm looking for. Ah well.

Ive read only recently in the maxscript reference that macros can be assigned to shortcut keys.

Could be... but isn't there some kind of a difference between maxscripts and macros?Here's the camera script download I'm talking about. The download is actually a toolpack called 'game level builder', but the camera script (Handycam.ms) is included in it: scriptspot.com/download.asp?ID=2102If you wish, you could get the tool and see more easily if this is doable some way...Thanks for your help so far, by the way. =)

Nope, a macro is a maxscript.The only difference is the header at the top of the script which defines it as a macro and says which menu group it falls into. I dont know enough yet to actually do it, maybe you could jsut post the code from the script, might be better

Hm, that would make the thread unnecessary long in my opinion... considering that you open the script (handycam.ms) directly from the ZIP-file with notepad (at least in WinZip)... so you wouldn't need G/Max to see the code.

I would download it if I knew what I was looking for...Unfortunately untill I have a need myself though I probably wont find out how to do it(got a lot of other stuff to do).What I suggest you do is pop over to the discreet support website for 3dsmax support.discreet.com/webboard/wbpx.dll/~3dsmax There are a lot of talented and knowledgable people over there, and Im sure your question will be answered in no time.

Actually I think I might stop here... this thread grew quite long seeing as how small thing we're dealing with here: just a shortcut key for button that is visible all the time anyway. =) Sure it would have made modeling & moving around a little faster, and I would have liked that... but it really isn't worth this long thread and possibly a new account on yet another forum.Well now, thanks again for your time. =)

Here is a short overview of what can be done and what not.Any MAXScript defining a MacroScript creates a so-called ActionItem (which was new in 3ds max 4 and gMax back in 2000) and is still the same in 3ds max 5,6 and 7.An ActionItem can be used in 4 different places: *Keyboard Shortcut*Toolbar*Menu*QuadMenuAll ActionItems (both those defined by MacroScripts and those defined by real C++ plugins) are listed in the Customize User Interface dialog in respective categories.A MacroScript can define its own category, button name, tooltip and icon file + index, but it CANNOT by default assign a shortcut from inside of the MacroScript definition.(ActionItems defined by plugins can). So in order to make a MacroScript accessible through the keyboard shortcuts, the USER has to go to Customize>Customize User Interface>Keyboard, locate the category containing the ActionItem, and MANUALLY assign a shortcut. (Same applies to creating buttons on toolbars - the user has to do this manually).There are certain Interfaces that allow the editing of Menus and QuadMenus, so it would be technically possible to run an "installation" script that creates menu items automatically...Hope this helps.

Pixelformer ddoes not imit you to con-specific imag sizes.Practically, this means that you generally would not need any additional software while making, say, an icon from a multi-megapixel photo. Or you acn actually edit large imageds when a more apprropraite tool is not availkable.

When using Pixelformer, you can always work in the 32-bit RGBA color space. Noi erstrictivee limits for image dimensions
